Went to the game with L, man of mystery, to watch another great game by the Saints. Again, the energy level of the fans, the thunderous noise, the joie de vivre made for an exuberant occasion. I was coming out of the restroom and the coonass tapped me on the shoulder and said he had run out to pee too because he was having a heart attack since the Saints were tied 24 to 24 and had the ball.
I heard a lot of flack from people who thought the notion of spending millions to redo the Superdome was ridiculous in the face of all the devastation that surrounds us. For those of us who are staying, rebuilding, renewing here in New Orleans – you’re dead wrong – we need the Saints to win more than we ever have before. We need Mardi Gras, we need Jazz Fest, we need Voodoo Fest, and all of the things that make our life richer even while we coexist with what the deluge has wrought.
