Loss Redemption Joy

A friend writes with a haiku she received – it’s incomplete and sounds even familiar as if I have read it before but the message is clear:

barn’s burnt down
now i can see the moon

We have a tendency to avoid loss, to avoid hurt, because we want joy, and we want love – but sometimes fire clears a path, a storm opens us to chance, and there we find all that our comfortable life couldn’t know.
