In training to be a woman

At coffee with a friend late yesterday, we discussed the sexes and how they differ. I told her that I mistakenly have believed most of my life that men were human beings like she and me. They are human of course, but now I am starting to see, not like me. So for all the excuses or allowances I have given them in life, I played a part in my own sabotage by not being…

I’ve got to be me, what else can I be but what I am?

I love traveling and meeting with different people both known and unknown because it’s this collective unconscious that you accumulate and take back with you. A woman who admires me for my business acumen now teaches me how to ask for what I want in personal relationships. A man who has always been my confidant gives me lessons in the other “sex” and informs me that I know nothing about the male psyche other than…

I blog, therefore I am

I read an interesting article about how the whole blogging phenomenon is about people engaging in conversation. More like a monologue than a dialogue it would seem to me. I liken this blogging experiment more to a pulse check – is my heart pumping red blood and is that oxygen coming through my parted lips or artificial life support? It’s up and down the road of life – heart swelling with joie de vivre one…

It’s the abundance here that makes me uneasy

Here in San Francisco is a cornucopia of bright white light, brand spanking new architecture (from hip to hop), clothes, shoes, wine, cheese, olives, coffee, old and new stuff, pulchritude, food, ethnicities, things to do, too hip to hop, too cool for school, abundance of abundance, Barneys, Gumps, Apple, shoes, boots, handsome men, stylish women, well bred dogs, well heeled kids, even roads, light, air, blue, white, small, large, and XXL. I pass Cafe Mozart…

City by the bay

Arriving in San Francisco yesterday to a gorgeous day reminds me that it was always a gorgeous day here – bright blue sunshine – white light that twinkles in its crispness – cool dry air that is remarkably similar to man made air conditioning – and the beautiful people. My cab driver is so handsome I have to ask him if he is Turkish – he’s not (Iranian and and Afghanistanian) – he is dressed…

Go fly a kite!

I carried back a big green dragon kite for Jake from Shanghai – going through security there and in San Francisco and at JFK and then into New Orleans was a little dicey as I had to explain to everyone why I was bringing it aboard and what it was. I just got back to my hotel room and in my email box M sent a pic of Jake flying it for the first time…

Catching up with West Coast

Started the evening having cocktails with a friend and then a party off of Dolores Street. The cozy big old house with Muni running right behind it was brimming with young, beautiful people drinking good wine and eating good food. And yet there was a scattering of young boys – one with a superman cape on – running around to make the party interesting. Later, night caps and night caps and night caps later, we…
