Swing in Santa Fe

We left the house last night with a bone numbing wind blowing to go to Canyon Road where the guidebooks say every Friday night is filled with street music and gallery hopping. Wrong. Either it’s Good Friday or it’s too damn cold but there was no one wandering Canyon Road last night.

Then we drove over to Guadalupe Street in search of one of the gay bars listed – Max’s – only we thought we had read Mex and so we passed Max’s several times and unknowingly kept going. It is in the trendy Guadalupe District/Railyard neighborhood and there was a lot going on but we decided to head to La Fonda and see legendary country music star Bill Hearne and his trio instead as they were the top bill at La Fiesta lounge.

We sat the bar and Tommy’s made us delicious Herradura margaritas and watched the couples swing dance around the tiny dance floor. Then we ate a mile high platter of nachos that later we regretted because it expanded in our stomachs and as we were not dancing it off (although we vowed to take country swing dancing lessons when we got home), we went to bed with barrel bellies and tossed and turned till 3AM until we both needed half a sleeping pill to finally get some shut eye.
