Dale Ball and the Ichiban

We woke yesterday and decided to head up to hike some of the trails that Dale Ball cobbled together that run through various parties’ lands – city, state, private, conservation agencies – he made a network of trails so that other people can enjoy the beautiful views and land. Up on the hilltops you could see the suburban sprawl that flows out of Santa Fe, but it is a quiet sprawl, hidden underneath low riding adobes that hug the landscape and keep it unencumbered except here or there with a metal roof or a reflective surface that seems alien. But thanks Dale Ball – we enjoyed the hike enormously.

We went to 10,000 waves, a Japanese inspired spa that sits nestled at the bottom of these trails and had ourselves an ichiban. Our own private ichiban tubs, chill out bed behind shojis, ice cold outdoor shower, and dry sauna.
