New Orleans is one of the first cities to host a regular opera season starting back in 1796. The opera season starts tonight and we’re going to see Puccini’s Manon Lescaut – the opera is still housed in its temporary home but in mid season it finally gets to move back to the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, which has been closed since Katrina. Placido Domingo is hosting the big re-opening.
See, it’s not all crime and booze down here in the Big Sleazy.
