I walked Loca for a long time this morning and then rushed home to get an hour and a half bike ride in before mom got here this morning for our Saturday brunch. It was glorious – perfect temperature – no jacket required – and I rode out to the point and back but hit a headwind that made me feel like the witch cycling in the Wizard of Oz.
We went to Caffeo on Dumaine and Burgundy in the Bywater and had a delicious breakfast of crepes and lattes. There was a nice diverse crowd with a sprinkling of kids and dogs thrown into the mix. All and all, a high recommend on my list of brunch places mom and I have frequented.
J was with us and afterwards we drove out to the 9th ward to the see the Pink Houses that dot the blighted landscape – part of St. Brad’s endeavor out there to raise money to restore the community. It was pretty cool – the frames are outlines of proposed housing that costs between $150K and $175K and they are covered in pink plastic. His organization – MakeItRightNOLA.org – is hoping to raise money to get this project going in the 9th ward first but then as a catalyst for the rest of the city. As the new Patron Saint of New Orleans – St. Brad gets very high marks from me!
