The small town we call New Orleans

This morning, walking the dogs, an elderly woman came around the corner with her dog and it started yelping away at mine so she crossed over to the bayou. In doing so, she lost her footing and fell against the curb. Cars stopped and people got out to see if she was alright. A man helped her up and then brought her back to his car, where his wife was behind the wheel, and they drove her and the dog home to Ursuline Street.

Later, I got on my bike and was headed to the lakefront for a quick ride – a loosen up the joints ride – when I decided to go see if the polling area was crowded, I turned down Carrollton Avenue and ended up getting my tire stuck in the trolley tracks and took a real spill. Cars stopped. A woman got out and came over to help me.

How many places do you think there are in the world, where people will stop what they are doing to take care of a stranger who has fallen?
