Row row row your boat

I was staying in last night to hang out with my girls (Arlene and Loca) but J called and said that G&T were over and they were taking the boat out. I’ve chided her about that boat – I have a canoe and want to get a kayak, but she has an inflatable with an electric motor. Well no more chiding. That boat rocks. I got in and laid back and we had music playing, I had an ice cold Tecate, and we started cruising down towards Park Island.

It was so awesome out there – it was the gloaming and the red was sneaking through the trees in the park. Ducks were everywhere. And I was telling them all about the Times article and how horrible it would be for tourism, and we were all kind of looking around thinking the same thing – “yeah, why come to New Orleans, we have a horrible life here” – my feet were dangling in the water, a heron took flight from the bank of the bayou, and the wind was blowing gently through our hair.

Hedonism – is that what we got going on down here? The rest of the world thinks we are in a cesspool waiting for the next catastrophe to strike. And yet, on a Saturday evening, I had so many invitations to go have fun, and found fun right on my bayou, laughing and cruising and looking at all the pretty houses and listening to music.
