Bayou girl

So B has done wonders with the Alcee Fortier fest and last night was proof in the pudding what a community can do and how great a community we live in. It was also my last night in high heels for a while.

After the storm B’s company asked how they could help and ended up donating $1200 for which B was going to put plants into the Alcee Fortier park. Instead he donated $600 to the Montessori school and parlayed the other $600 into a fundraising party that raised $15,000 to put irrigation, plants as well as benches into the park.

Last night was the second annual fundraiser and he managed to get all the local restaurants and stores to donate as well as getting major artists and local artists to donate – and in the end he raised almost equal to last year and we ended with a beautiful sculpture by Peggy Bishop as well as other wonderful things like a chance to mingle with the entire neighborhood and drink wine and eat good food.

I was on limited everything as surgery was scheduled for early this morning and so it was my last night for a while in high heels. I ended up bidding on and winning three auction items – one a gift certificate to Cafe Minh, a folly called Faubird St Ignatius which is a whimsical bird like sculpture that is supposed to help bring our troops back from Iraq, and the other a painting by Sandra Burshell of a large man on a park bench.

Late this afternoon, sitting on the porch with my feet elevated, B walked by with his dog, a Catahoula rescued after the storm, Bayou Girl, I told him I want to do a fundraiser to paint the bridge – he said I was reading his mind because as he came over the bridge with Bayou Girl he thought the same thing – but his wife would kill him if he said anything right now – so we have another potential fundraiser brewing.
