A friend emails about a date gone bad, or gone nowhere rather, after only a few dates and what’s left is a giant question mark that hangs in the room like a white elephant. Simultaneously, a male friend calls and says he is splitting with his girlfriend and is sad over this choice – but I hear a resolution where there has been a giant question mark hanging in the room like a white elephant – so the resolution seems better. Earlier, I spoke with someone else who said a relationship was not going the way he had hoped, and he had wanted the relationship, and so he’s blue. But in that case maybe I am the only one who perceived the giant question mark hanging in the middle of their room.
It’s all enough to make you want to turn that giant question mark upside down and swing from it, instead of trying to decode the he said, she said, and figure out what went wrong.
