When we arrived in St Maarten, G and I hurried to the lobby with her laptop to check on news of the march that had taken place earlier in the day in New Orleans – the march entitled Silence is Violence – the march that was awakened by the death of a local filmmaker and the Hot 8 Band leader – tragedy on our doorstep while we are off on a privileged trip to the islands.
We didn’t get good feedback until the next night on CNN when we watched Anderson Cooper’s recap at midnight lying in our hotel beds – both of us welped up watching the coverage.
