Gentlemen prefer blondes

I talked mom into seeing Maria uptown for her hair and told her she needed to get rid of that reddish color that Henry gave her because it didn’t suit her at all. She is a blonde – always has been. You either are or you are not. She called today to say she feels like her old self again. Ah, blonde again.

In a magazine recently that did a survey of the hottest men and women – the grouping of men were pretty eclectic, running from thin to buff, face hair to none, blond to black hair. The women, ALL OF THEM, looked exactly the same – some rift on Jessica Simpson.

I told L the other day that I saw nothing in Jessica Simpson – and he said she has the classic looks: blonde hair, good skin, nice body. I’ll give her the body part but the face looks like it was created through computer generation – where is the interesting feature, the uniqueness, the je ne sais quoi? Not to mention where is the talent?

It’s the quirks that always attract me – the something that is edgy or different. A good friend of mine in SF, J, a woman of many wonderful features (one being her songbird voice) said about Robert Downey Jr. when he was back in rehab again – “you know it kind of makes him more attractive” – it’s the quirk, or the tell, that makes individuals.

I say if you want classic blonde beauty – Ingrid Bergman – no contest. And my mother, back in her day, she also was a strikingly beautiful woman.
