What a perfect name for a drug and AIDs rehab clinic – the Odyssey House – I guess it would be called that. They are trying to put one up here in our neighborhood and there is an outcry of NIMBY going on. I see both sides. As a home owner, I know that even multiple units nearby degrade the resale value of a home much less a drug rehab. But my conscience says everyone deserves a second chance and environment does influence behavior – so if in trying to gain their second chance they live in this beautiful environment, isn’t that offering them greater hope? We’re going to a meeting tonight to hear both sides presented – I imagine it will be a heated debate – but what gives me hope is that thus far the arguments have been intelligently presented on the email forum. I guess I line up with if they will abide by the rules (anyone on drugs gets kicked out immediately) – then they have every right to be here as we do [good thing they are not patrolling for drug use in the neighboring homes too].
