Committed to shining

A friend dropped by last night and sat on the porch with me chit chatting about this and that. We were talking about big things (hurricanes, babies), medium things (family, bills), and small things (shoes, hula hoops). I said, “man I’m not looking forward to this week, I am already pulled in too many directions with not enough time to accomplish one well” – he said, “Rachel, just shine, be a light for everyone else.”

I thought about how this morning started – taking care of a friend’s two elderly cats that had puked over all the furniture, poo’d outside both litter boxes, and basically made me want to vomit before I started. Then about the fact that I learned my brother did indeed move back here but it was under compromised circumstances seeing that his and his wife’s livelihood was totally dependent on what has now become a huge disaster – the subprime crisis and housing market.

I thought – half empty or half full – I have to go with half full. I’m nervous about the economy – I spoke with a friend yesterday who said they are looking for a rebound at the end of ’09 – oh my god! – we have some days, weeks, months to plow through.

But since they are OUR days, weeks, and months – we might as well shine – and look on the sunny side – sure beats chewing glass and sticking pins in your eyeballs.
