Ivette was standing on the bayou waiting for J to come out of the house and I walked out with Loca to say hi and admire the beautiful day. We smelled the roses as she told me this separation is a good time to “oler” – to take it all in, to digest all that has happened and to reflect and appreciate. The roses smelled good too. Meanwhile, two women were strolling by and one said, “I love your house. It looks like it belongs in Dwell magazine.” She said she had lost her house on St. Ann and was contemplating buying on the bayou. We had just been talking about cost of remodeling post storm and I said, “Well, if I had only one day or a lifetime to live on the bayou, I’d take it.”
