Anyone from New Orleans will tell you that when you meet someone the first thing they ask you here is what high school did you go to? I always thought it was because most did not go onto college or work for large companies like elsewhere. But last night I was speaking to someone from California, who is Japanese via Hawaii and she said, “That’s how it is in Hawaii. No one cares where you work or what college you went to, they want to know where you went to high school to see who you know in common and how you are connected.”

That is a much better way of looking at it.
