The wrought iron fence ties it all together

The wrought iron fence went in today courtesy of David Borgerding. It looks fabulous – I mean really takes the whole thing; hey, it was the missing piece, if there was a missing piece – but he came to install it as I was leaving for Pilates and a woman drove by in a big huge Hummer and she said, I LOVE YOUR HOUSE!, and I just smiled. She said I’ve been watching since pre-Katrina. Was there such a thing as pre-Katrina?

Katrina forever changed our lives – I don’t remember who I was before Katrina, I only know the person I am today, and I am nowhere close to putting the final touches on me – I’d like to leave me an open book for now, chapter upon chapter as yet unwritten, unsung, untold, but not undone – no, not by a hurricane, not by a tragedy that almost took a way my city, my home, not by the loss of my long-term marriage, not by being fooled by a fool, not by waking up one day and wondering if you’ll ever feel your heart beat inside your mind again. No, not undone.

The house is done though. Except for the fin on the front door that needs redoing. Except for the water spot on the ceiling in the kitchen directly underneath the HVAC system in the attic, except for the pantry valance getting fix. All of these things are just minor minor minor pieces because today the wrought iron fence went in – painted a dark brown – and like in The Big Lebowski with the Dude’s rug – it ties it all together.
