Parting is such sweet sorrow

It appears from Doug MacCash’s article this morning that the board at Le Petit Theatre got their way and have sold half of the theater to Dickie Brennan. It’s a sad day for New Orleans and any one out there who believes this was the only road to salvation does not understand the fear tactics and short-sightedness of what went on behind the scenes. I liken this to the Tea Party having hijacked Obama’s agenda and having diffused the truth into a he said, she said battle royale during the debt negotiations that left the entire country with a black eye. New Orleans has her black eye today.

I lament the passing of one of the oldest theaters in the country, Le Petit Theatre, it will never be the same as it gets converted into yet one more restaurant. I don’t blame the Brennans, any restauranteur would have drooled on themselves to get this prime real estate, I blame the board that would not entertain a better way out of the mess they created.

I can only imagine the next thing they decide to do to pay for the theater is to put up a tee shirt shop in the lobby, with slogans such as these:

The lady doth protest too much

Parting is such sweet sorrow

The summer of our discontent [sic]

Something is rotten in the state of Louisiana [sic]

Et tu, Dickie? [sic]

The play’s the thing
