I bought some shelves and drawers at IKEA and Tom came over and put them together for me. We both marvelled at IKEA – the ability of them to make affordable, well designed, easy to put together furniture. I’m talking about paying $179 for a three drawer chiffarobe (as we call it here in New Orleans) and $129 for a 58×58 bookshelves that would easily cost $1000 to have made by any carpenter. For $38 in the “as is” department I bought a trio of Wenge nesting tables that look like they came from Design within Reach. Unbelievable.
Anyway, after not having drawers for the last 16 years, I am just marveling at them. And the bookshelves in the office help to organize a ton of crap that has been under the desk and all around me.
It’s all coming together. The LaLa, the rooms, all of it. And yet today when I was speaking to E we both talked about how the dark cloud that seems to be over a lot of people here in New Orleans, is actually not particular to us, but is widespread, more global, a global malaise that has set in due to war, weather and what not – all factors that make life seem so tenuous and uncertain.
The closer I get to finishing the more I want to detonate – put that Airstream on the back of Blue and head for the ocean to sift the sands for prizes – beachcomb – decompress.
