In the career life, most bosses like to see a married person as opposed to a single one. The reason is they know that person will most likely go to bed at a reasonable hour and will most likely not do something psycho like take off to Mexico. Well that was what most of married life was like – he worked, I worked – and without kids it was more like, he worked all the time, and I worked all the time. Wow, that is the road to success. But when you get a little older, wiser, and are not married, working all the time doesn’t seem smart or compelling. Because it makes you dull – dull as dirt – monomaniacal about your subject matter.
Yet, I’m finding work to be somewhat of a solace these days – my subject matter – media – is in such flux, such chaos – that the experts I interview as well as myself are scrambling to make sense out of it – which makes it, er, um, challenging, to say the least. I guess that is what you can say about my job in general – it’s challenging – and therefore good work for me.
Fun and games are still worthwhile, but sometimes they get old and not challenging. So it’s good to know at the end of the day and at the start of the day, there is plenty of work to be done.
