The New Orleans Museum of Art is holding its Centennial celebration in honor of its anniversary. The Ancestors of Congo Square exhibit is certainly worth a trip even though the way it was curated leaves something to be desired – namely dates (what were they thinking?) but the pieces are exquisite.
The Madeline Albright pin collection is also worth seeing – Read My Pins is a fascinating look at how one woman used a talisman to gird or celebrate her moments in the global sphere.
Our houseguest lives in New York and is a frequent museum goer there, she commented that our sculpture garden is the best she has seen in the world (she is from Spain), and that the NOMA’s 18th and 19th century paintings are an excellent collection. Not bad for a town that can’t seem to support its theaters (Le Petit and now Chat Noir!).
