It’s going to be okay

The bumpersticker on the old Toyota Camry said It’s Going To Be Okay and I thought whoever had the presence of mind to put that on their car had a good sense of humor. This morning I started work at 6am so I took the dogs out later than usual, this time wearing my iPod and listening to Ram Das. I was so moved by what he was saying that I felt as if I was seeing the world differently. And I was – I was wearing my glasses, something I rarely do away from my computer, even though I need them. I stopped for a moment on the banks of the lagoon and watched a large Louisiana Heron nestled in a thicket across the water. Sight is a marvelous thing. I was stunned by its beauty.

Moments later, I came across a friend who was off today and riding his bike through the park. I was sweaty and my friend was sweaty but we hugged each other as we took each other’s temperature – are you worried about your job? are you worried about the economy? are you doing okay? We hugged again, this time in a more meaningful way.

Later, I ran into an old friend who had just downsized and he had a sense of relief of having gotten rid of square footage and stuff that goes in it. He said he felt like monkeys jumped off his back. He hugged me. Another told me he had switched his portfolio a month ago. Whew, he said. Today the market tanked and all I thought is this too shall pass. “I’ve never seen it this bad.” Yes, you have.

I thought of what I had just been listening to – “Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it!” Ram Das
