Why cats are assholes

We call Bam Bam, the rat bastard to his face. I’ve never seen the likes of a cat like this. He literally looks for situations to be a butt. Like he will wait till Wolfie is walking by and then strike her with his paw. Or he’ll purposefully claw out the screen on the door rather than just walk through. He’s having a fine time trying to ruin the Eames daybed and the Saarinen Womb…

RIP – David Carradine

David Carradine hung himself in a closet at the Bangkok Sofitel while filming a new movie today. I loved the Grasshopper! So sad. He was 72 years old. His television show, Kung Fu, like the Star Trek of old, was a great, inspired television series. I miss those kind. I think we’ve all become too jaded to experience them the say way we did then. Some dialogue from Kung Fu: “Deal with evil from strength,…

Worms in the tomatoes

There is some tomato worm that is infiltrating the garden tomato plants in the area. Bugs me! Know what else bugs me – Swirl is trying to have a proviso changed to the current zoning law so that they could serve wine by the glass and stay open till 9PM. Most people support this change but there are few worms infiltrating the email list serve that make you just shake your head. It’s not that…

Simple pleasures await

We’re getting to that point in the year in New Orleans where the heat makes you lazy and only hurricanes give you anxiety. So now it’s a matter of finding out how to enjoy the dog days. I envision more trips to the lake and maybe even the beach with the dogs. The Ogden Southern Museum has some wonderful line ups – Tim Gautreaux on the 13th and Ellen Gilchrist in July. We had friends…

The fire within

I was listening to All Things Considered and there was a review of Magos Herrera and the writer was comparing her to Diana Krall who just recorded Brazilian tunes. He inferred and I’ve always felt that Diana Krall just lacks a certain fire inside of her. Whereas this Mexican singer songwriter has something really going on – here she is with her song about the waning moon:

Bonnie Prince Billy

I went to see and hear for the first time Bonnie Prince Billy. A guy there described him as the Gordon Lightfoot of this generation. I liken him almost to a lesser Tom Waits as a lyricist. Some of the songs were fantastic and some banal. A good time was had by all and he drew quite a strong crowd at One Eyed Jacks. Here is a sample of his lyrics: What are you waiting…

Addled brain

I don’t know about others, but I love being 50, even though who the hell can remember anything at this age? I seem to forget just about all that is about to come out of my mouth. This phenomenon sharpened on May 2nd and has become greatly pronounced every day hence. Maybe it doesn’t really matter anyway – I was always the Mistress of a Million Details. Fuck the details. Who really cares about minutia…

Insult to injury

I called to check on mom midday and she was saying how stupid she was for falling. I told her to quit adding insult to injury, not to beat herself up for falling down. She said her physical therapist keeps telling her the same thing, not to make matters worse by saying negative things to yourself, about yourself.
