The battle you can’t win
According to all parents surveyed, one child psychologist, the internet and our pediatrician no food fights. Apparently the one battle you can’t win is trying to get your kid to eat something they don’t want. Forgetaboutit.

I was in Verizon today because my phone is not going to make it till third quarter when Verizon begins to carry the iPhone so I brought the phone I had gotten my mother and had them transfer it over to that one. I had the case she had said she wanted when I called her from the Verizon store in my hand when a man in his forties walked in and said he needed…
It’s going to freeze this weekend starting tonight and you’d think that the end of days was upon New Orleans as everyone freaks out about it.
Because I’m the mother, that’s why! Remember how many times your mother said this to you? Well it comes from many venues. Today we took Tin for his first doctor’s appointment and learned he was circumcised (the jury was out) and he does have eczema (fragrance free and baths every other day) and that he is in the 10% percentile for weight and height but in the 75% percentile for head size. All good. The…
Yesterday, I took a friend to the gym with me because she wanted to check out NOAC. After step class, I was showing her around but had this overwhelming sense of needing to get home because I had the hebegebes being away from Tin. He actually was down for his nap between 6 and 7, but I wondered while I was feeling this elephant sitting on my chest while appearing to be casually showing my…
Yesterday, I went to step class – it was the first time I have exercised since November 24th. Amazing! I thought I was going to have a heart attack and was so winded I had to remember to keep my mouth closed so that my fellow steppers didn’t call an ambulance. Then I had a nice small bowl of Coconut Chicken soup that T had made in her cooking spurt for dinner with (ahem) no…
Lexi and Tin and I went to go see Robert and the Mardi Gras Indian costumes at the Backstreet Cultural Museum the other day. Tin was having none of it. This is a rare treasure here in New Orleans to go see the collection of suits that are so intricate and elaborate and on Fat Tuesday the real Mardi Gras happens on the blocks surrounding this museum. For a nominal fee you can sign up…
We were walking around the bayou today and ran into the mayor of hood and he was marveling at Tin in the Ergobaby and said, “Enjoy this because it goes by in the blink of an eye.” Here’s our little sprout (or our little wizard) dressed up in some hand me downs from Ruby across the bayou:
Everyone is finding new ways to layer on clothes as the temps hover around the high 30’s and low 40’s. We don’t do well in cold weather – none of us down here do. Even the birds are congregating together to get some warmth. Today the whole family minus Bam Bam and Wolfie went for a walk around the bayou to feel the sun on our faces and it was brrrrrr, biting cold. My friends…
Has anyone noticed that it is election time in New Orleans and that the candidate signs are larger than ever? What is going on? Really, I look across the bayou and Mitch Landrieu’s sign is so big it almost looks like a neighborhood and the other day someone else was erecting a sign on their balcony and needed a crane – what goes on?
