I got a call today that my mom has a life insurance policy – this one is different from the one that helped pay my half of the burial. This one was a small policy naming my sister and I as co-beneficiary only the insurance company has been trying to find me since December 1st after my sister contacted them to say my mom had passed.
The woman at the company said they have been trying to get my information since the get go and only today my sister deigned to tell them I live in New Orleans and they found me in the directory. I told the woman I would publish my maiden name and past married names on my blog to make finding me more accessible via the internet.
Born Rachel Elizabeth Namer
1st Marriage Rachel Namer Gratia
2nd Marriage Rachel Namer Franzen
3rd Marriage Rachel Elizabeth Dangermond
That is the name I go by now and forever. Women ask how you could take a man’s name – how could I take my father’s name again when brothers were appearing left and right in newspapers all over the country – Jew Hires Duke, Criminal Genius – you name the headline, Namer has been there and done that.
I like my name – Dangermond – it fits me just fine.
