Rocking the Casbah

In Tangiers we stayed at the Dar Nour guesthouse run by a lovely French couple (and I mean lovely, like rock star lovely) and our room was just enchanting as they have peppered the entire guesthouse with their own personal belongings and books and photographs and art and rugs and whatnots, plus the view off the terraces were stunning. At the top is a tri level terrace that gives you a panoramic view of Tangiers and they serve a breakfast that was incomparable – from freshly baked chocolate croissants to Moroccan spiced crepes.

The hotel is located right in the historic Casbah and the walk from the car that picked us up at the ferry to the hotel was magical, almost like stepping into a wonderland complete with the woman washing clothes in the fountain, and the kids running around with their dark black eyes, and the colorful doors and sporadic bougainvillea climbing the walls in corners where the sun penetrated the walls of the medina. We visited the old mosque that is now a museum and it had an incredible garden and room after room that made you want to sell everything and move to Tangiers to live out the rest of your life.
