Seeing the world through your eyes

I remember sleeping near my niece’s crib when she was hooked to a heart monitor – she was premature to say the least. When it would go off like a siren in the night, my heart would stop and I’d get up and walk with her in my arms trying to calm her down. She was as tiny as a frog when she was born. I thought then she had set the bar high for overcoming obstacles, but life had a way of intervening again and again with even greater challenges. As I sat last night listening to a parent say “enough with kids,” “enough with them not getting their act together,” I thought of Miracle Baby constantly exceeding everyone’s expectations.

A friend of mine in California still quotes my niece’s report card in grade school that stated, “Lexi is a friend to all.”

Well dear readers, little Lexi, born 1 lb 9 oz, is all grown up – and still raising the bar.
