I was reading that NYT article about raising kids bilingual and sent it to a friend who is raising her child bilingual and she echoed this part of the article back to me:
If you have two languages and you use them regularly, the way the brain’s networks work is that every time you speak, both languages pop up and the executive control system has to sort through everything and attend to what’s relevant in the moment. Therefore the bilinguals use that system more, and it’s that regular use that makes that system more efficient.
She said … makes me feel like an efficiency expert (a la Louise).
Coincidentally, I got an email saying there is a new episode up, so I watched Louise at it again, this time channeling her inner feline and I realized if you can say it, you can have it, if you can ask it, you can remedy it. That is the expertise I need to be working on right now. The what needs to be answered before I can move ahead with my grand plans.
