Since we won’t be getting ashes on our foreheads today, I instead lay in bed at 1 am putting together the various pieces of Mardi Gras – standing on the corner of Mimi’s as we began our day yesterday I had all the memories of years passed, meeting T, bringing T2 out for his first Mardi Gras and our first family costuming and as I looked around and saw friends and strangers dressed in every imaginable costume with huge smiles on their faces and listened to the marching bands striking up impromptu, I thought again as I have many times in my life – everywhere else it is only Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This year Tin was the Prince and we, his exotic animals.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We ran into a friend wearing the mask of the person who shall not be named asking for votes because the world is going to end anyway.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This guy from Boston wanted to join our party.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Here are twin girls who had the same tee shirt on as Tin did under his Prince jacket.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

BP managed to harm even the little children of our fair city.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Here is where Tin<\/a> got in the groove<\/a> of Mardi Gras and let his freak flag show.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Even Tin’s nanny was out and about.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We ran into friends who were cows – The Cow That Jumped Over the Moon and Cash Cow – before leaving the Marigny.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We ran into friends all along the way as we rolled into the Quarter.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Here is Plastic Fantastic looking pretty swell.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then we turned to watch St. Anne<\/a> bringing up the rear.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A respite at a friend’s courtyard in the Quarter on the way.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ending up at the Monteleone but couldn’t go in because we had a baby on our back.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ended up where it all began seeing our neighbors set up and then right as we made our way back out of the Quarter we ran smack into the marching Christians with their bullhorns and nasty signs. But that was whatever, until a tall one hit Tatjana’s hat off her head and she punched him. I then confronted the whole group to get the hat back, and as I stopped their nasty procession, people were coming up to me to tell me to let them through so they would get out of there, and I said I just wanted my girlfriend’s hat back. So we were able to finally get it and order was restored to our chaos.<\/p>\n

And at the end of the day, a good time was had by all and another Mardi Gras has passed, and so starts Trash Wednesday – getting rid of the debris.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
