Dividing my time

French Quarter Festival starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday. Gal Holiday is playing at the Botanical Gardens Thursday night. Trombone Shorty is at Wednesdays on the Square with Soul Rebels. A friend’s birthday on Saturday, a friend’s child’s birthday on Sunday. Oh where or where has this year already gone, oh where oh where could it be? It’s already April and I missed some blooms, oh where oh where could it be.

A Time Out for Mom

This morning I cut up a juicy naval orange and served the sweet slices to Tin who threw one on the floor. I slammed the spoon down I was about to bring to him for his nicely warmed oatmeal and plumped raisins and decided to put myself in a time out – I took my delicious tea in my cup with the beach scene on it and sat on the porch to the sounds of…

My star

So Tin got a gold star for his performance at Sound Cafe and he gets one today too for his artwork. He and his nanny checked out the brand spanking new Mid-City Library (I can’t believe in these days that we would even get a branch) for Story Time and he crafted this doozy – I know I’m not supposed to brag about my kid, really I’m not and believe me there are other things…

Just one of a million blogs, so what?

Someone said that to me today and I just thought whatever. Meanwhile, about two blogs – Louise Logs got a revamped website and a mention from Roger Ebert, while LikeTheVodka writes she is getting inspiration from my Love Slav. I think she and I have a lot to discuss but it must be over a cocktail – preferably Wodka Tonics handmade by same Love Slav – particularly as her latest entry is on the fascination…

The Constant Gardener

Okay I did not like that film – no chemistry BUT I was in yoga today and Michele’s message was the Gardener – to pull your weeds (do your work) and then plant your seeds (fill your life with what you want) and then sit back and enjoy the flowers. So I was looking at my back and side yard and relishing the fact that pretty soon this little cold spell that we are enjoying…

Feathering our nest

Loca and I ran through City Park this morning and you could barely tell a storm had been through last night. We caught up with a fellow walker who pointed out the swans nesting on an island in the lagoon. It appeared as if the two white ones were occupying the same space and the black one was sitting as well. They are defending the nest against nutrias, those pesky beasts that are overpopulating the…

Ciao bella

Last night a friend of a friend came by to visit, he was here from Ancona, Italy at a cardiologist convention. His first time in New Orleans. He had flown in and been holed up in the Monteleone for three days and had one evening free. Conferences – pishaw – what kind of life is that? We talked about his specialty, cardiac intervention – stents, angioplasty, etc. I told him my two brothers had stents…

Bent But Not Broken

All those hours spent practicing in front of the mirror and glass reflection of the stove paid off for Tin when he took the stage with the big guys. He bought into his diva status and needed a time out a little bit after the set, but for the moment he was indeed channeling Louis. Someone asked him his name the other day and he said, “Louis Armstrong.”

This and that cause

I’m going to give one more shout out to Sound Cafe’s Silence is Violence and the work they’re doing. I just received this notice of a lesbian couple’s house burned down and QUEERS written on the side of the garage left standing. Wouldn’t it be grand if everyone were working for change instead of spewing hate?
