In the land of the overscheduled

Frankly, I’ve tried to make this weekend one where I could relax and even perhaps snatch some time alone as T is leaving for Croatia this coming Wednesday for two weeks and Tin is out of school come the 19th, which means not only no T, but 24/7 T2 six days in a row! Oo la la. Because the weekend started out the gate with a roar with Friday night trying to compete with Thursday…

Except for Lola

I was in Rouses today at the liquor counter cause god knows we don’t have enough gin for all that goes on around here and behind me were two women and one said what do you think, a bottle of Crown and the other said I have been drinking a lot of Jamesons lately and the first said well if you would rather drink a broke down version of Crown then we can get the…

No regrets

Top Five Regrets of The Dying December 1, 2011 By T Kelly For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal.…

Chestnuts roasting on a TV fire

Last night, a friend was in from California and we scooped him up from his hotel and headed to a gay gathering at Tulane and quickly exited stage left to come home and sit by the TV fire and relax. Neighbors came and joined us two by three and before you know it, we were having a swinging little pawty here at the LaLa completed with nuts, TV fireplace, Wedgewood Christmas tree, and holiday music.…

Re-Bridge Restoration Planting Today!

We are going to meet on the south side of Harrison and Wisner at 9 am on Saturday morning. I will have some boots and waders from the park but if people have knee boots, hip boots or waders they should bring them. Folks are going to be getting in to the water, bending down and sticking their hands and arms into the water to plant in the muddy bottom of the Bayou. It’s not…

The mark

Yesterday I took Tin to Pizzicare for a slice of pizza after he was running around in the playground for an hour with his best friend Kenjy. We were having a discussion about his hair because he hates for me to comb it and I was showing him two men – one behind the counter with locks and one who was eating at the front table with a shaved head. Both extremely handsome btw. I…

Giving it away

Last night I headed to Swirl to check out James Moises new Pinot Noir. It was wall to wall people inside spilling out into the chilly night and one would have thought they were giving away something for free. And they were. Overflowing glasses of $40 Pinot Noir that is – for free. It was the debut of Moises first estate grown pinot – fabulous. Fabulous. Did I say that? What a delicious wine. Ten…

Ode to Mom

We packed a picnic of egg salad and the nun’s Irish soda bread with some cookies from Sucre and headed over to Mom’s grave to refresh her flowers, have lunch with her, and commemorate the anniversary of her death two years ago. It was a beautiful day, the camellia bushes in the cemetery had all spent their blossoms that now skirted the tree like a snowy apron, the sun was bright, and the undergrowth around…
