Went to see Tom McDermott at Snug tonight with G – he was terrific. I didn’t want to go out after the nutty day I had but it was good to sit there and listen to someone play a variety of styles – from choros to waltzes to a lullaby (he had written for his Chinese adopted baby niece) that had an African flair in the middle – in such a heartfelt manner. <\/p>\n
We didn’t hang around for the second set, but instead walked over to Brasserie for a nightcap – the big Christmas tree was up and the atmosphere was so enticing and yet it was so damn smokey in there – I told the bartender it was bad, and she said well come January 1, there will be no smoking in restaurants. <\/p>\n
