A storm is due in tonight, right about the time Ivette arrives from Puerto Rico. The next few days are jammed with things to do, people to see, and time to prepare for T’s departure on Monday morning. All of it seems to have already gone by in a blur. Ivette will be here for a little over a week so there is more time to savor her visit. But the rest seems caught up…

How to save a life

Had lunch today with a friend I hold very dear, who has been through enormous struggles of late – and I came away from this lunch feeling raw. When her going got rough, I kept trying to avert her attention to what is good without acknowledging the HUGE elephant in the room crushing her chest. Straight to summer

In one breath, spring was sprung and irises were just starting to bloom, but now it appears all the trees are fully leafed, the air is thick with humidity, and sweaters have been tucked away for the next six to nine months. Winter? Don’t remember. Spring? Ephemeral. Ah, but summer for eternity. And so we begin another year on the bayou. One lone pelican defying the flock and hanging around passed its time.
